Patient Survey Results Jan to Mar 2021

The GP Patient Survey is an independent survey run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England. The survey is sent out to over two million people across the UK. The results show how people feel about their GP practice.

The survey’s are sent between January and March each year, with the result published late summer. 262 survey’s were sent to Sixways Clinic patients, with 137 responses sent back. This is a 52% completion rate and represents 1.2% of our practice population.

Full details of the results can be found at www.gp-patient.co.uk/report

As a practice we review the results internally with the whole practice team and also with our Patient Participation Group. The headlines for 2021 were as follows:

Best:

  • 91% of respondents say they have had enough support from local services or organisations in the last 12 months to help manage their long-term conditions.
  • 93% of respondents felt the healthcare professional recognised or understood any mental health needs during their last GP appointment.
  • 83% of respondents find it easy to get through to this GP practice by phone.

Improvements:

  • 58% of respondents are satisfied with the general practice appointment times available
  • 39% of respondents usually get to see or speak to their preferred GP when they would like to.
  • 63% of respondents were offered a choice of appointment when they last tried to make a GP appointment.

We were delighted that 91% of our patients responded that they find our reception team helpful, and also that 96% of patients felt that their GP/clinician was good at involving them in decisions about their care. Overall 88% of patients who responded said their overall experience of the practice was good.

We always try to learn from the patient survey responses and are in the process of agreeing some changes. Only 39% of patients felt they got to see and speak to their preferred GP. We’ve added some additional information on to our website about which day’s our GP’s work so that patients know when they may be able to see their preferred clinician. Our reception team should also offer an appointment with the preferred GP on request, as well as any earlier appointment with a different GP.

58% of patients were satisfied with practice opening/appointment times. We are looking at how we promote our extended access and improved access clinics which operate outside of our normal opening times and give additional appointment options for patients.

We are very grateful to all of the patients who took the time to complete the survey.
